I have never eaten Indian food like this before! If you live in Kamloops or will be visiting, I highly recommend dining at Maurya’s Cuisine and tasting some of my favourite upscale Indian cocktails and dishes. Maurya’s Cuisine is located on Victoria Street in downtown Kamloops and when weather permits, they have outdoor dining as well as indoor seating for about 150 people and enough space for group dining such as banquets for about 70 or 80 people. Maurya’s elevates familiar dishes and cocktails with traditional Indian flavours in house-made spice mixes to create the most special and unique cuisine yet keeping some familiar dishes such as butter chicken for those not quite as adventurous.
Mauryaās has the first East Indian Inspired Craft Cocktail Bar and offers a unique twist on traditional drinks. Two of my favourite cocktails are the Tamarind Margarita and Perfect Gin (I love pineapple). The flavours are nothing Iāve tasted before and found them intriguing and delicious. For example, they serve a tamarind margarita of silver tequila, black salt, chaat masala, and lime. I can’t describe the taste other than it checks the boxes of sweet, sour, tangy, and spicy all at once. You’ll just need to try it for yourself! Check their website for the craft cocktails menu.

Cardamom Dreams
I havenāt tried Indian food other than the usual butter chicken and samosas so tasting Mauryaās new creations was a great experience of upscale Indian dining for me. My favourite dishes that I will be back for more (pictured below) are Mauryaās Sizzler Shrimp, Cauliflower Wings, Chicken Seekh Kebabs, and by far my favourite of everything I tasted was the Roasted Tandoori Fish. The fish was marinated and cooked in a traditional tandoor clay oven and served with fresh lemon juice, melted butter, chopped onions/bell peppers and mint chutney sauce. If you’re not sure what to order, try one of the feasts for two.
