My visit was sponsored by Quails’ Gate Winery. Opinions are my own.
Wine is one of the staples in my kitchen and apparently a glass a day is very good for a person’s health, right? One of my favourite wines is from Quails’ Gate Winery located on the south-facing slope of Okanagan Lake, Kelowna, BC, is The Allison. This wine is named after the first European settlers on the west side of Okanagan Lake, John and Susan Allison. Their original ranch house is still located on the Quails’ Gate property and where we participated in a private wine-tasting.
I had the honour of celebrating Quails’ Gate Winery’s 30th anniversary with the Stewart family at the end of November. The success of this family-owned winery comes from over 60 years of viticulture experience spanning over three generations still involved in the winery to this day. During the private VIP cocktail hour with the Stewart family, we were able to sample Quails’ Gate’s new release wine — the Collector Series Chenin Blanc Clone 220. Delicious! During the celebratory evening, we were entertained by Andrew Allen and sampled some of the canapés from Old Vines Restaurant.
Where to Eat
You can’t visit Quails’ Gate Winery without dining in their Old Vines Restaurant, one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada. The dishes are designed to enhance each wine, and perfectly paired suggestions are listed on the menu. On a previous visit, I tasted many of these delicious creations and can’t wait to go back again!
Where to Stay
The Lake House & The Nest
Quails’ Gate Winery offers two amazing lakeside homes for guests to experience the Okanagan lifestyle. The Lake House is larger, offering amenities for up to 14 guests, and with plenty of space that you’d never know there were that many people in the house! From the open concept kitchen to a fireside sitting room, this home also has a master suite separate from the wing which contains the rest of the bedrooms. Situated at the base of the winery, and directly on the lake, guests can take advantage of an outdoor fire pit, hot tub, barbecue area, and water sports on Okanagan Lake during the summer months…see below for images of The Lake House!
The Nest, located between The Lake House and a wildlife sanctuary, is a bit cozier than The Lake House and can accommodate up to 7 guests.
Visit Quails’ Gate Winery’s website for details about booking wine tours, restaurant reservations, as well as booking your stay at The Lake House or The Nest!
Love their winery!
My sister and I are members and the pick up parties in the historic Stewart place are very cool!
This is a rising trend with many wineries – I’ve seen Summerhill has a place you can rent too.
That patio & kitchen in the summer would be amazing!
Thanks Murissa! What a great membership to have. I agree that it’s such a great idea for wineries to offer vacation rentals! This one sure is fantastic.
Thank you Sherri – The Allison and the Collectors Series Chenin Blanc are now on my list of wines to try!
You’re welcome, Deb! There are so many more wonderful wines at Quails’ Gate, of course! I hope you can do a tour and try them!
