PHOTO ESSAY: Back Alley Murals of Kamloops, BC

I don’t typically wander the back alleys of any city, but my interest was piqued when I saw some colourful murals while driving downtown Kamloops, my own city. Of course, I had to explore and find out what they were! To my surprise, there was an entire alley, blocks long, filled with gorgeous works of art. I had to find out what this was all about.

A few years ago, a Back Alley Art Gallery program was started in Kamloops, BC. The gallery features a variety of murals created by a collection of artists.

“The Back Alley Art Gallery is an integral component in the KCBIA’s Complete Streets Initiative: public spaces that are friendly, supportive, appealing, and safe. This program creates community partnerships between the local business and creative communities and provides an opportunity for local artists to showcase their talents, diversify the downtown business environment, and beautify public space.”

Take a wander through my gallery below, then venture out and see the murals for yourself!

My gallery features just a few murals (click on the first image below to scroll through and see the full mural in each photo). The full walking tour and addresses are on the Downtown Kamloops website!
