Margaret Falls is located in the community of Sunnybrae on Shuswap Lake, within Herald Provincial Park. These falls are just over an hour’s drive from Kamloops and are a great place for an easy day hike and perhaps a wine tasting at Sunnybrae Winery just down the road afterwards!
The main parking lot for Margaret Falls is about a 10-minute drive from the highway, and if this is full, then there is more parking down the road at Herald Provincial Park. Please use that as the windy road is not wide enough to park along.
From the Margaret Falls parking lot, it’s an easy 1.5 km walk on a wide, well-maintained path along the creek through the lush old-growth forest. The path is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs as well. The path begins at the outhouses then you walk along the road for a bit to the bottom of the hill before entering the forest path. There’s another path partway down the hill that we weren’t sure was THE path or not; it’s not. 🙂
I don’t need to say too much about the spectacular falls; you need to see them yourself. The viewing platform is right at the base of the falls, I was up close — the rushing water was spectacular and very loud!
I’ve had Margaret Falls on my list of waterfalls to visit for a very long time, and I’m glad I could check this off my list this Easter weekend!
