There is a newly renovated Hilton hotel with an ocean view that you must experience: Hilton Garden Inn, in Wailua Bay, Kaua’i. Thank you for the room upgrade, Hilton Garden Inn! We appreciated watching the gorgeous sunrise every morning from our oceanview junior suite!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by name (who does that? I felt like a celebrity!) by friendly staff who ceremoniously presented us with gorgeous fragrant flower leis, shell leis, and mai tais. They were very helpful and efficient in checking us in and even called our room to ensure we were satisfied with our suite.
This is the only Hilton on the island of Kaua’i and is newly renovated. This expansive property is about a 10-minute drive from the Lihue Airport and sits beside Lydgate State Park—the perfect swimming beach for all ages with a playground and picnic areas.
The Rooms
The Hilton Garden Inn offers standard rooms, suites, cottages, and accessible rooms. It is perfect for the traveller who is looking for an upscale hotel at affordable prices near the ocean. I liked the location because it wasn’t too far north to drive and explore each day, and wasn’t in the south of the island which was more busy and crowded.
Amenities
Not all vacations are truly a vacation. The Hilton Garden Inn has complimentary wifi throughout the property and a business centre that is open 24-hours a day for those of us who have some business and homework to look after, or just need to print travel documents or tour confirmations. There is also a fitness centre on the hotel property but we spent most of our time sightseeing and outdoors that we didn’t spend any time in the gym. Perhaps next visit!
Dining at the Hilton Garden Inn — Garden Grille
The Hilton Garden Inn has a gorgeous open-air restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but closed in between. There is talk of them possibly opening in the afternoons for guests who would like to enjoy the lounge and have snacks and drinks before dinner, and also possibly offering room service in the future.
The service was a bit slow for the à la carte food, so make sure you allow extra time to relax and enjoy your coffee and the ready-made buffet. We found that the food was rather expensive, more so because of the Canadian/US exchange rate, so we were a bit creative and shopped at the local Farmers’ Markets and enjoyed fresh Kaua’i produce, by cooking most meals in our suite.
Things to Do
The island of Kaua’i offers a wide variety of unique sights and activities so you probably won’t spend a lot of time at the hotel. For those days you just want to relax, the Hilton Garden Inn has two pools and is next to Lydgate State Park. Ask at the front desk, for a cooler and mat, and you can enjoy a day at the beach, snorkelling and swimming in the protected area.
The Hilton Garden Inn also has a collection of vintage bikes for you to rent and enjoy a ride along the gorgeous beach path.
We had a great experience at the Hilton Garden Inn. The friendly and helpful staff were a huge part of making our visit to Kaua’i memorable!

What a lovely collection of photos! The hotel does indeed look very nice. I am afraid I would have missed out on a lot the island has to offer with a hotel like this one as I would have stayed inside all the time 😀
Thank you Lena. It is a beautiful hotel but you will want to explore the gorgeous island too! We had a red mustang convertible and couldn’t resist driving around. 🙂
I didn’t know there was affordable lodging on Kauai! And that’s awesome they lend you coolers and beach mats, what a great idea!
It was a very nice hotel and the staff were super nice and very friendly. The coolers and beach mats are part of the resort fees but it’s so perfect if you want to spend the day at the beach. I would go back…and Kauai is my favourite island so far!
This looks like a really nice place to stay! The food looks incredible!
Thanks so much!! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back!
This hotel looks lovely, there’s so much to do nearby and the food looks yum! I love that it won’t break the bank either!
Thanks Lily. It was a great place to stay and everyone was so friendly.
Hilton Garden Inn looks wonderful!!! I need to visit Kauai again, I am way overdue. Good to know that there’s an affordable upscale option. Didn’t realize that was even a thing!
Yes you should visit again. You’ll see places I didn’t. 🙂
The grounds look lovely with all those palm trees!
It’s in a great location near a State Park, too.
It looks really beautiful there. Will definitely keep this in mind when I finally make it to Hawaii!
You definitely should visit Hawaii. I highly recommend it. 🙂
Sounds like such an amazing place! I’m especially liking the lei and mai tai part hehe! Definitely sounds like a place I could enjoy!

Thank you! Oh you should!! Hawaii is definitely worth a trip each year (or month, I wish) and Kauai is my favourite island so far.
The interior decoration in your photos is spot on, definitely attractive. If I ever find myself in Hawaii, I might just have to check it out.
Thank you! I agree, the renovations were well worth the effort. It’s so beautiful.
Nice! I love the colorful and spacious areas. This hotel would be great for staycations!
Yes it would! The staff are very friendly and it was a nice and relaxing vacation for us!
Hilton garden looks so luxurious and beautiful. Great that you can rent bikes here as well. Totally worth a stay
It sure was!!
Oooooo, sounds like I need to add this place to my Hawaii list! I love that it is next to a state park too because we always try to find new ones to explore when we are traveling.
Yes you should!! It is so convenient, too!
Normally i am not a fan of such hotels and prefer to stay at guest houses. But this one looks good! Love the garden/Lydgate State park from the pictures.
Thank you! The view was spectacular and I was happy to watch the sunrise every morning over the ocean.
I have to admit, I always feel luxurious when I stay at the Hilton. Even though theyre still a chain… they’re always consistently nice! Thanks for the beautiful pictures!
I do too! You’re welcome! I love sharing images of places I’ve visited.
