Grannie’s Gingersnap Cookies

Grannie’s Gingersnap Cookies

One of my favourite memories of my Grannie is her gingersnap cookies! Often at “3:00 tea time” she would have a plate of gingersnap cookies waiting for her guests to dip in their tea. As an adult, I looked forward to visiting her and enjoying gingersnap cookies and tea while we caught up on each others’ lives! Now that my Grannie has passed, my family continues to make her “famous” cookies and enjoy new family times together as we remember her.

I hope you will enjoy these cookies as much as our family has!

  • Total Time: 26 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, and cream thoroughly. Add unbeaten egg and molasses and beat until smooth. Sift remaining dry ingredients into creamed mixture and stir until thoroughly mixed. Roll dough into half to one-inch balls, then roll in granulated sugar.

Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 16 minutes in a 350°F oven.
