Retro hotel, The Burrard Hotel, Vancouver, BC

My stay was sponsored by The Burrard Hotel. Opinions are my own.

The modern Burrard Hotel, in the heart of downtown Vancouver, BC, is a boutique hotel that hides an oasis of palm trees in its secret courtyard. It’s the perfect view from the guest rooms! This unique retro hotel was the perfect place for me to stay on my road trip to Vancouver. It is conveniently located across from St. Paul’s Hospital, a short 20-minute walk to the waterfront (I am not a fast walker and tend to window shop too often), and is on a major bus route with easy access to Gastown, Granville Island, and Stanley Park. Depending on your preferences, The Burrard Hotel is close to shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, and more—everything downtown Vancouver offers.

I am grateful for my 2-night sponsored stay at The Burrard Hotel. They have done an amazing job of converting the motor hotel into a new and unique retro hotel, with the perfect secure parking area for guests. As a graphic designer, I noticed and appreciated, the retro branding throughout the hotel from the logo on the welcome mats to the signage throughout the property to the branded vintage Brodie bikes. Well done!!

Rooms

I never wanted to leave my bed—it was the most comfortable sleep I’ve had in a long time! My guest room included free wifi, Nespresso machine, a snack pack and drinks, and a large safe that fit my laptop, camera, and everything else I needed to secure. I appreciated the large closet space with shelves and the crisp white bathroom with funky retro floor tile. One thing my room could have used is more plug-ins for charging cameras, phones, and laptop near the bed—sometimes I travel with an extension cord but forgot this time. That’s my only suggestion and have no complaints about my stay. My photos of the room interior left a lot to be desired, so I’ve included professional photos by Martin Tessler (used with permission) in this post.

Dining

Downtown Vancouver offers many restaurants, coffee shops, and cafés near the hotel so you have your choice of any type of cuisine you desire during your stay. I ate comfort food at the Burgoo for both of my dinners, as it is conveniently located beside the hotel and offers the option of charging your meal to your room. The flavourful French Onion soup was full of gooey cheese—so delicious and very filling! For dinner on my second night, I ordered fresh-made tomato soup and the Burgoo’s updated take on a grilled cheese sandwich. Yum! The staff at the Burgoo is super friendly and the food…perfect!

On my next visit, I will have more than one tea or coffee at Elysan Coffee, beside The Burrard, as I enjoyed the Nespresso machine in my room both mornings. There is a good variety of tea and coffee options at Elysan and I do suggest getting a “to go” cup for your morning walk.

Activities

I mentioned above that The Burrard Hotel is centrally located in downtown Vancouver so your activities are endless. Take advantage and explore Vancouver on the free retro Brodie cruiser bikes for guests to use—how fun is that? As well as exploring the city, while at the hotel you can relax by the fire pit or play ping pong in the courtyard, if the weather permits!
