I recently visited wine country in British Columbia to check out Christmas celebrations in the Oliver and Osoyoos area. I stayed at Spirit Ridge Resort, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
This beautiful resort has so much to offer. It’s located in Canada’s only desert around Osoyoos and is a place sacred to the Osoyoos Indian Band. The resort consists of 226 condos, suites, and villas, has a top-notch restaurant, a winery, and a cultural centre where visitors can learn about the Indigenous history of the region.
Suites
We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite which had a full kitchen so I can see this being great for longer stays of a week or more at a time! Summertime would be perfect so I could enjoy exploring local wineries, shopping at farmer’s markets for fresh fruit and vegetables, spending time by the pools at the resort, or taking advantage of their spa.
Resort Amenities
Spirit Ridge includes more amenities than most I’ve stayed at. Our suite included everything we needed for a longer stay, including a full kitchen, an on-site restaurant, a fitness centre, a pool, a spa, golf, riding stables, a private beach on Osoyoos Lake, business services and meeting facilities, electric vehicle charging stations, and free parking. With all these amenities I’ll be back during the summertime!
Dining at The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry
They call it “upscale comfort food”…I call it delicious! The Resort’s signature restaurant offers Indigenous-inspired cuisine in an unforgettable setting. My Eggs Benedict included beetroot cured salmon, poached egg and classic hollandaise over bannock. I liked this so much that I had it for breakfast again the next day. From my table, I looked out over the vineyard to Osoyoos Lake… the stunning view! I visited in the winter and do look forward to going again in the summer when the vineyard is ready for harvest.
Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre
I find it important to learn about the lands and people of the places I visit, and it’s even more important to me now that I’m seeking information about my personal Indigenous history. At the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre at Spirit Ridge Resort, you can walk through indoor and outdoor exhibits which tell the stories of the area and people. It is well worth the visit!
