I’ve been feeling cooped up lately as I’m sure everyone has, so I decided to drive to a nearby mountain village, Sun Peaks Resort, for a short getaway and a change of pace and scenery from the city. Sun Peaks is a great place to spend time year-round and boasts the second-largest ski area in Canada. My 24-hours away felt like a week and I was so refreshed! During the week it is less busy compared to weekends when many locals ski and snowboard. We’ve had stunning weather lately so of course, the sunshine made it feel so much warmer for my walks around the Village.

Where to Stay

One of my favourite places to stay is at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre, in the middle of the Village. My mountain-view room was perfect, I could relax and watch the activity on the slopes while worked…just a bit. The rooms have been recently renovated and feel more luxurious and artfully decorated. I’m happy to say, the beds are still the most comfortable I’ve slept in.

Where to Eat

Sun Peaks offers eateries for almost every craving, so this time I chose the newest Italian restaurant in the Village. Capone’s Italian Kitchen in the Hearthstone Lodge. From the moment I walked in the door, the atmosphere was great and the staff were warm and friendly.

It was difficult for me to choose what to have for dinner because everything on the menu sounded amazing. My final choice was a Duck Confit Ravioli. It was so flavourful and filling, I barely made it through but of course, had to order dessert! My choice was the refreshing Lemon Sorbetto to cleanse my palette. After dinner, the snow began to fall again which made for a perfect walk back to my hotel.

How to Relax at Sun Peaks

If you’re wondering how to relax at Sun Peaks Resort, I have only one word for you… “SPA”!!

I chose the 75-minute Great Canadian Spa Experience at Sun Peaks Spa. With full safety precautions in place, my entire experience was amazing. I started with a hot foot-soak of rosehips and sweet birch, while I enjoyed the snowy forest view outside my window.  The next part of my treatment was wonderful with a back scrub and a hot stone massage that must be experienced, my words can’t do justice to how great this felt and relaxed I was afterwards.

A visit to Sun Peaks Resort is not complete without a view from atop one of the mountains. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and the view was just as gorgeous! The perfect ending to my short getaway!
